Do you know how to save money?
One of my first year insights:

Do you know how to save money?

Lately this October, I have been reading books about personal finance. I've searched books and the net because I am finding ways on how to save more on my allowance and how to minimize unneccessary expenses. I have come up with ideas based on what I've researched:

* "Pay yourself first." That's right. I am going to save first. Maybe I am going to allot 40% of my daily allowance for savings. According to Colayco's book entitled Wealth Within Your Reach, one of the reasons why Filipinos do not save much is because of the common formula of "SALARY - EXPENSES = SAVINGS". Rather, it should be "SALARY - SAVINGS = EXPENSES". I think it is not that bad. I would like to take that as a challenge.

*"Determine your WANTS and NEEDS." Remember what your Economics teacher told you? We always spend our money on our wants rather than on our needs (the usual basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, etc.).

*"Do not be an IMPULSIVE BUYER." This is related to the second idea about wants and needs. When I see something new and good to see in the mall I am usually tempted to buy it but I pause for a moment and think whether is it worth my money? If I am still having second thoughts I do not buy that thing. And oh, if you don't really need that discounted dress you saw on your favorite shop, DON'T BUY IT. Discounts are only useful when you buy something that you really need. Basically, we are blinded with the wrong notion that we will save more if we buy this discounted pair of socks and jackets.

Mutual fund
I was retrieving my files when I found this article of mine:

I am planning to invest in a mutual fund but I'm still thinking whether which type of mutual fund am I going to put my money to.

Based from what I know, in a mutual fund, your money is pooled together with other investors and a finance manager (I am not sure if it is right) whose held responsible in deciding where to invest the pooled money.

Maybe I'll put it in a Balanced fund, a combination of stocks and fixed-income investments. Equity fund can be exciting but has the most risk since most of the investments are stocks. But wait! Equity fund maybe has the most risk of losing your money but it also has the highest potential return among these funds. Bond fund, well, can also be an option since it has a fixed-income and also GS fund which invests mostly in government securities. Both of them are low-risk investments. And there is also the money market fund in which you invest your money for a year.

But before all that, I would still have to save, save and save to reach an amount of P10,000. I believe that I can attain that. Well, I hope so. Anyway, action speaks louder than words right? Tehee.

Taking care of eyeglasses

I have my eyeglasses replaced last 2 weeks and I was able to gain some tips on how to take proper care of eyeglasses. some of which are:

1. Use water only when cleaning your eyeglasses and then wipe off with a facial tissue. Cleaning with soap or alcohol is definitely a no-no!
2. Remove and put on your eyeglasses with both hands.

I was surprised to know about these things for I wasn't told by my previous doctor about it.

On Becoming a Nurse
When I was young...

I dreamed of becoming a farmer.
I dreamed of becoming a teacher.
I dreamed of becoming a psychologist.
I dreamed of becoming a physician.
I dreamed of becoming a medical technologist.
I dreamed of becoming a financial analyst and a stockbroker.
I dreamed of becoming a researcher.
I dreamed of becoming a neurologist.
I dreamed of becoming an inventor.

And then eventually...

I dreamed of becoming rich so I thought of becoming an entrepreneur.
I dreamed of becoming famous so I thought of becoming an artist and a composer.

But then lately I've realized..

Why did I pick up nursing as my future profession whereas never in my wildest dreams did I expect to take it?

Is it because nursing is currently in demand?

Or is it because of the influence of the significant others?

Or maybe because I am only after the opportunity of going abroad?

Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not sure if I'm going to love it. Nor do I know if I like it. But one thing is for sure. I wanted to be the best that I can be. I wanted to do the best that I can do. I know that it may sound cliche but I mean it deep down in my heart (gosh, it's like the Joy commercial..anyway..)

Thanks to the people around me who had shared their heartfelt stories on what it is to be a nurse, both the ups and downs of being a nurse. Somehow, it made a huge impact in my life. I originally wanted to become a doctor, but later on I find myself envisioning myself as a future nurse.

Nursing is not just a profession. It is an art. The finest art among the the Fine Arts as what Nightingale had said. And nursing is not all about making a large amount of money. Nursing is caring. For caring is the foundation of human survival.
